For the past 4 years, GRITSY has utilized several great spaces.
None of them have captured everyone's attention such as the Roof Bar.

We've also never had a chance to say a proper goodbye, until now.
The Roof Bar is closing it's doors & GRITSY is throwing the party!

So on Valentine's weekend join us, an inflatable monkey, TWENTY 18" subwoofers,
and several hundred lovers of BASS, as GRITSY says goodbye to the Roof Bar!

Add our the Gritsy fan page & find out where we'll be next!
http://www.facebook.com/Gritsy

If you’re not in tune w/ the Gritsy movement, here's a little background
by Karma Houston's very own John Tran [Kung Fu Pimp]:

Imagine the 1st time you went to a club, heard a completely different type
of music than from the radio & being instantly hooked!

Add a fine tuned soundsystem, colorfully designed flyers, sexy lights, sexy beats,
great DJs, an avid crowd & you have GRITSY!

Still trying to figure out what DUBSTEP & GRITSY is all about? READ ON!

Here is a definition of dubstep according to our good friend, Joe Nice,
the stateside's #1 selector [dj], of the dubstep sound:

Deep in the heart of South London's underground lies a sound that percolates
in the streets and vibrates the speakers...dubstep is the soundtrack.

A vibe that rests on the edge of relaxation and explosion, that flourishes
in the middle ground of the comfortable sounds of soulful house and the unbridled energy of drum & bass.
Music made in London -- forged from multicultural influences, syncopated rhythms and loads of bass.

SO WHAT IS GRITSY?!?!?
SO WHAT IS GRITSY?!?!?
SO WHAT IS GRITSY?!?!?

GRITSY, the party that first brought the dubstep sound to H-town, is just a straight up PARTY
with a wonderfully enthusiastic crowd, great djs/selectors, and a soundsystem that'll make your body SHAKE
with some serious BASS!

It's only getting bigger & better, so if you haven't joined Houston's infamous dubstep
party and movement or heard about it yet...

Saturday, February 13th, 2010...

FEATURING

SINES
|FORMANT RECORDINGS|

Straight outta the dirty South, Texas, Sines (Leroy Bella & Joseph Isla) have quickly become not just one of the busiest duos in stateside dubstep but also one with an eye for talent. Responsible for Formant Recordings and a host of parties, Sines has spent as much time developing the talents of others as they have polishing their own low-down and diverse sounds; just peep some of the names gracing Formant wax to see who is next. Willfully switching sounds and timbres, Sines are equally happy creating dirty garage-influenced rollers as they are twisting accapellas into sub bass workouts. The defining theme in their work is passion and style, no matter what the project is.

SUREFIRE.SOUND 010 SINES + ENZYME + SUPA + CHILD(San Francisco)

Look Forward to the New Year with a musical Look Back!!
A night of Garage, 2-step and proto-dubstep with Formant Recordings duo SINES first ever San Francisco appearance.

SINES (FORMANT RECORDINGS – HOUSTON, TX)
Straight outta the dirty South, Texas, Sines (Leroy Bella & Joseph Isla) have quickly become not just one of the busiest duos in stateside dubstep but also one with an eye for talent. Responsible for Formant Recordings and a host of parties, Sines has spent as much time developing the talents of others as they have polishing their own low-down and diverse sounds; just peep some of the names gracing Formant wax to see who is next. ENZYME (GRIME CITY – SF)
Enzyme (a.k.a. Ben Frans) got his start behind the decks in 1995 while attending the University of Massachusetts, spinning a diverse selection of drum & bass/jungle (as part of the Greenhouse Effect DJ crew). Enzyme’s musical focus was changed drastically after spending a year in London, where he first heard and began spinning the emerging UK garage/2-step sound. Returning from London, he moved across the country and set up shop in San Francisco, where he became part of the Forward-Thought crew. He was one of the primary forces and resident DJ’s behind the award winning party Step, the first weekly U.K. garage club night in America.

After a brief hiatus from DJing, Enzyme re-emerged on the S.F. scene as part of the B.I.G. Crew, spinning a dance floor friendly, unique blend of grime, dubstep, and UK Garage. Enzyme can currently be heard at the legendary GRIME CITY parties.

SAM SUPA (SUREFIRE - SF)
Sam Supa is a local pusher of Dubstep and other bass music. He has been playing records since 1991 starting out in the early Rave and Breakbeat Techno days. Supa draws his influences from Dub, Lovers Rock, Hip-Hop, Metal and Jungle. He flexes on the decks dropping big tunes with classics in a dynamic mixing style.

In March 2007 he took an influential trip to DMZ and had a guest spot with N-Type in the UK on Rinse FM and did it again in 2008 and to this day is one of the few Americans to play Rinse. He has played alongside many respected and pioneering DJs such as Hatcha, Youngsta, N-Type, Juju, Skream, Kode 9, Joe Nice, Mala, Caspa, Headhunter, Plastician, and local legends such as Djunya, DJG and many more. He is a current resident at San Francisco's longest running Grime and Dubstep night GRIME CITY and co-founder of SUREFIRE. Check out his new record label Brap Dem! Recordings.
